Fire Safety

We have recently begun a fire safety unit. Yesterday, we role played what to do when you hear a fire alarm or smoke detector. Sure enough, that afternoon the real fire alarm went off. I guess we should have role played winning the lottery. Anyway, as I was looking for various activities that incorporate what to do when we hear a smoke detector, what are fire dangers, planning an escape route, etc., I came across a number of great interactive fire safety websites. The students have started to access them in school, but it would also be a great activity to do at home. After vacation the students will be asked to fill out a home fire evacuation plan for homework. Here are the links to some good web sites:
Emotions

During Social Group, the students have been working on identifying their feelings with regard to specific situations. You may be happy at a party, worried when you have no lunch money, frustrated with a schedule change and sad when you miss someone. To promote carry over, have students identify these feelings as they are happening.

We have met a New Year resolution. We are blogging! This will help us stay connected by sharing class events, information and photos. Here are some pictures from our holiday shopping trip to the Burlington Mall. The students really were in the giving spirit. They were excited to send gifts home to their families. Some students did some wrapping when we got back to school. Lastly, I hope the quote I found reminds and inspires us all to think about learning through experiences.
